Bamboo Flowers

Bali, Indonesia // 2020 // role: Lead Designer & Person In Charge // Ibuku

I designed the flowers at South Quay as giant interior design elements for the renovation of the Discovery Shopping mall in Kuta, Bali. The clients for this project were engaging in a major renovation of the mall and wished to add some carbon negative sustainable bamboo elements into a large open space with fourteen-meter tall ceilings. The flowers are six meters in diameter and reach over three meters tall, a scale to properly hold the presence they need in such a large space. Due to their size, and the constraints of the site, we needed to prefabricate the pieces. To do this, I designed the flowers to be made in petals, which could nest into each other for transit, and be lifted easily in place on site.
